Learn to Skate & Learn to Play is offered through The Center Skating Academy USFSA program. 

Learn to Skate

What we offer

25 minute instruction with 25 minute supervised practice time.

What others offer

25 minute class, No practice time

Learn to Play

What we offer

25 minute skate without a stick and 25 minute skating with a stick. Focus on Fundamentals, Puck Handling & Shooting. 

Consistent coaching from staff with 20+ years experience to keep skaters engaged and learning with forward progression moving towards joining a team or league

What others offer

25 minute class with no practice and no stick. 40 minute class with very little stick use and some basic instruction on beginner play

Rotating instructors - no consistency for skaters to learn and engage moving forward. 

Advanced Figure Skating

What we offer

50 minute class focusing on edge work, beginner jumps and spins along with a 50 min off class including: Stretching, balance & Agility, off ice jumps & spins

What others offer

40 or 50 minute class instruction on ice only

About our program

Our program is based on the US Figure Skating Learn to Skate USA curriculum. Skaters can start as early as 3 years of age and will need their own skates. You will find that we have a dedicated and professional staff to help your skater grow and excel at their pace and work towards their individual goals and achievement. Below is a breakdown of each our classes to help you know where to start.

Classes

Snowplow Sam

Ages 3 - 5 years

This class is for our beginners ages 3 to 5 years of age. In this class skaters will get the feel for the ice and learn the proper way to fall and get up. Basic marching, gliding and stopping will be taught along with balance and confidence building through play.

Learn to Skate

Ages 5 and older

This class is for skaters 5 years and older, from beginners to the intermediate level skater. Skaters in our Learn to Skate classes will start learning beginner edge movements: Forward and Backward Swizzles, Wiggles, 1 Foot Glides and more. This class will help the skater master beginner skills that will help them excel in either our Learn to Play hockey program or our Aspire Figure Skating Class. 

Learn to Play

Ages 3 and older who have mastered getting up from a fall on their own and marching forward without assistance

This class will help the future hockey player better their skating skills with and without a stick, learn and work on beginner play drills along with proper stance, balance and agility. Skaters MUST be able to get up from a fall on their own, be able to march or beginner push their way across the ice without any assistance from a person or an object, including a hockey stick. If they need work on these any of these areas, please first register for our Learn to skate classes.
